Developing strong, effective leaders in the not-for-profit aging services field

Program Overview

The Academy is designed as a leadership development program. Participants will actively explore best practices of leaders, analyze their own leadership, learning and problem solving styles and experience the synergies that result from high performing teams. In order to maximize learning opportunities, space is limited to a maximum of 15 participants.

Who Should Attend

Those sponsored for the program should be mid-level managers and up at a LeadingAge Massachusetts provider member organization with the potential and desire to make an impact on their organization. At least three years experience managing teams and/or projects is required.

 

Program Structure

Designed specifically for the adult learner, this cohort-focused program requires your commitment to four fullday and three half-day sessions, plus preparation required for each session over one year. Work required in between sessions is estimated to take an additional 4-6 hours per month.

 

Dean of the Academy

Jodi Detjen is a professor of management in the MBA program at Suffolk University and is a principal partner of the InTrinsic Group. The InTrinsic Group guides organizations to leverage their existing people and processes to maximize performance and long term impact. Jodi received her MA in International Development Policy focusing on  organizational development from Duke University in 1997 and her BSc from Virginia Tech in Management Science in 1986.

Goal Setting

Develop your career vision and goals for the program. Learn how to align your goals with your organization. Examine how input from others using a 360 degree evaluation can help you achieve your goals.

 

Managing Oneself

Date:

Del Gilbert, MBA, Chief Learning Officer, St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH

This session helps you understand your working style using the popular DiSC model. We will investigate the strengths and challenges associated with the 4 DiSC styles. Learn how to deal with the challenges associated with your style and how to work effectively with the other styles.

 

Managing Conflict

Approach conflict in a positive way. A simple yet profound 4 step process will be given for dealing with a conflict. Participants will learn the implications of differing approaches to conflict and key principals and steps for a meaningful process of managing conflict.

 

Systems Thinking

Systems thinking solves problems by looking systematically at organizational issues and change. Explore how a systems approach helps leaders to determine what underlying fundamental relationships cause problems.

Team Essentials

Utilize the dynamic Team Ready Model for an accessible and applicable framework to understand team roles and performance. Learn how to lead a positive and productive team process and help the team to communicate and solve problems effectively.

 

Live Case Study and Debrief

Use the skills and tools learned in The Academy to work on a live case study.  Cohort will be split in teams, analyze the problem, develop a solution, and present results to senior leadership of the organization.

 

Moving Forward

Reflect on what you learned across the year. Refine your goals and plans to further integrate your skills and increase your impact. Work with cohort and Jodi to identify potential challenges and opportunities moving forward. Celebrate Graduation from The Leadership Academy.

Tuition

Tuition is $825 per participant.  Tuition includes all class fees, meals, handouts, and a journal.
